Getting Here

Visitors driving into the region generally arrive on either the Victoria Highway from the Northern Territory or the Great Northern Highway from the south. Three main airports service the region: Broome, Derby and Kununurra. There are a considerable number of smaller airstrips throughout the region, some are bituminised, most are not.

Vast distances separate many of the main attractions in the Kimberley. Travelling between these attractions by car can be both an exhilarating and challenging experience.

Road conditions can be very demanding on all vehicles and drivers should allow for increased fuel consumption, driver fatigue and vehicle breakdowns. Many roads are suitable for high clearance four-wheel drive vehicles only. Alternate ways to travel around the Kimberley include road coach tours and charters, air charters, boat charters and via the Ibis Aerial Highway.
