Travellers intending to leave main roads and enter Aboriginal
Land for any purpose, must obtain a permit. Travellers on an
organised tour will usually have permits organised for them by tour
operators.
It is the right of Traditional Owners to refuse any entry
permits.
There are a number of places or objects that hold special
significance for Aboriginal people. Respect should be shown for
these sites. Some are protected by law and there are penalties for
trespassing.
Information on obtaining permits and traversing aboriginal lands is
published on the Department of Indigenous
Affairs web site.
